10 NOVEMBER 2010 CHURCHILL FELLOWSHIP AWARDED TO SANDRA MEIHUBERS IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR DENTISTS DENTAL BOARD OF AUSTRALIA REGISTRATION RENEWAL: 30 NOVEMBER 2010 The registration renewal date for the dental profession is 30 November. However, if you were registered with a State or Territory registration board as at 30 June 2010, you will have automatically transitioned to the new national registration and accreditation scheme. Your registration is valid until the end date of your current registration. If you were registered in more than one State or Territory, your registration is valid until the latest end date of your current registrations. Once in the new scheme, you will only need to renew when your current registration expires. Your first renewal may be for more or less than 12 months in order to bring you into the new registration cycle (and you would pay a pro rata fee accordingly). You will be sent a reminder when your registration is due. A table on the Dental Board of Australia website www.dentalboard.gov.au outlines the first cycle of registration under the national scheme to align all future renewals with the date of 30 November. See Fees for cost of annual renewal. Sandra Meihubers has been awarded a Churchill Fellowship for her extensive community work. She will be studying "the implementation of community based preventive dental practices in rural and remote Indigenous communities", and will be travelling to Canada and Brazil over a five week period in 2011. latest news BUPA AUSTRALIA -- PROVIDER NETWORK CHANGES Members will recall the notice in the October 2010 News Bulletin alerting them to correspondence from Bupa Australia Pty Ltd, notifying members of changes to its Members First dental network. Legal advice has been obtained by the ADA in relation to the correspondence and proposed new dental network terms and conditions. Due to the confidential nature of this legal advice, a report on that legal advice has been prepared and has been published on the ADA member website. The article can be found in the Latest News section of the website under the banner 'BUPA Australia Provider Network'. As mentioned in the report, the advice that has been provided is for the benefit of members only and should not be read in lieu of members obtaining their own legal advice as to the ramifications of entering in to the proposed agreement. From the ADA's perspective it maintains its recommendation to all members to seriously consider if they wish to join schemes such as that proposed. Entry into such arrangements requires members to become bound by conditions that may potentially influence or impact on their professional independence and quality of care delivery. The ADA feels that it is always in the best interests of both patient and practitioner to provide dental services without the influence and impact of any third party funding arrangements.
