10 DECEMBER 2010 STRATEGY MEETING held in Adelaide Over the weekend of 29 October 2010, ADA Inc. held a strategy meeting in Adelaide. Preparations by Federal Council for a review of ADA Inc. strategy have been reported in previous Federal Council and Federal Executive reports. To assist with the process Ms Anne Skipper AM was engaged as a facilitator for the event. In the lead up to the weekend, Ms Skipper contacted all the meeting participants to ascertain what they felt were the issues to be addressed by the ADA Inc. in the coming years. Dr Neil Hewson, Federal President, in his address to the meeting indicated that "Dentistry had undergone some significant changes over the last few years and the political and social climate is such that it will continue to undergo reform in one way or another. The ADA needs to meet these challenges and meeting these challenges will require a new perspective/dynamic for ADA and the need for us to have a sound organization to deal with these." He indicated that the weekend would provide the ADA with a golden opportunity to address some key issues facing the ADA. He said that what was to be undertaken was "about the profession setting the future direction for the profession". He indicated that what had to be determined in this process was: • Where is the ADA now; • In what direction should it head to meet the needs of members and the public; and • When those questions were answered, the ADA needed to determine how best to get there. He emphasized the task involved the development of a 'big picture' blueprint or road map for a strategic direction of the ADA. No instant solutions would be developed overnight, but what would be borne out of the weekend would be used to develop the future strategy for the Association.
