14 MAY 2011 The Federal Council of the Australian Dental Association Inc. met at the ADA premises in St Leonards on 14 and 15 April 2011. Major items discussed at the meeting included the following: • The Treasurer's report, quarterly budget and schedule of investment reports were furnished by the Treasurer of the Association and the reports were adopted. All reports indicated that the ADA's financial affairs were in accordance with budget expectations. • The 2011/2012 ADA Inc. Budget was reviewed by Federal Council and adopted. • ADA Inc. Federal subscription rates will increase by approximately nine per cent. The increase will enable ADA Inc. to provide increased and improved member services which will include: improvements to the IT infrastructure of ADA Inc.; the introduction of a Continuing Professional Development project involving presentations provided within Branch activities, based on the topics from the annual Australian Dental Journal Supplement; the on-going production of the ADA Dental Files for distribution to members; provision of an expanded National Online Library system and a Digital Media Library that will provide 10 hours of premium quality CPD video instruction on matters relevant to the practice of dentistry at an annual cost of approximately $650,000 (this will provide 10 hours of CPD to members at approximately $50 per head). • A membership report indicated that membership numbers now exceed 13,000, with approximately 10,500 being registered dentists. • Congratulations were extended to Dr TK Pitsikas AM, Dr JA Robertson AM and Dr AM Zahra OAM on their receipt of Australia Day Honours. • ADA Service Medallions were awarded to Drs Don Anning, Lloyd Wong, Rod Marshall, Rachael Garraway and David Ashton for their work on the Local Organising Committee for the 34th Australian Dental Congress. • Professor P Mark Bartold was reappointed as Editor of the Australian Dental Journal for the period 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2016. • Federal Council adopted an ADA Inc. Strategic Plan (See pages 16, 17). • Approval was given to conduct a Mouthguard Awareness campaign in March 2012. • Approval was also given to conduct the ADA Inc. Dental Health Week with the theme of the benefits provided by dentistry. A title for the week will be developed by the Oral Health Committee. • The President reported upon discussions with the Minister for Human Services and the Department of Human Services (Medicare Australia) on the Medicare Chronic Disease Dental Scheme that are reported in greater detail elsewhere in this New Bulletin. • A report of the 34th Australian Dental Congress -- Brisbane -- 2011 was received. The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Dr Derek Lewis and members of the Local Organising Committee were congratulated on their work in conducting this very successful Congress. Congratulations were also extended to ADA Inc. staff for their contribution to the Congress. • A 2011 Dental Fees Survey will be conducted based on the usual fees charged by members as at 1 July 2011. • The following were appointed to the ADA's delegation to attend the FDI Congress being held 14--17 September 2011 in Mexico City: Dr FS Fryer -- Delegate; Dr K Alexander -- Delegate; Dr C Bonanno -- Delegate and Mr RN Boyd-Boland -- National Liaison Officer/Alternate Delegate. • New policy documents entitled 'Minimal Intervention Dentistry'; 'Dentistry and Sustainability' and 'Orofacial Cone Beam Volumetric Tomography' were adopted. • Amendments were made to Policy documents entitled 'Establishing Policy'; 'National Oral Health'; 'Community Oral Health Promotion: Oral Hygiene'; 'Delivery of Oral Health Care Special Groups: Adolescence and Young Adults'; 'Delivery of Oral Health Care Special Groups: Individuals with Disabilities'; 'Research'; 'Higher Education Funding for the Dental Workforce'; 'Continuing Professional Development'; 'Sponsored Continuing Professional Development Activities'; 'Continuing Professional Development and Council/Executive/Committee Meetings'; 'Dentistry in the Presence of Third Parties'; 'The Australian Schedule of Dental Services and Glossary'; 'Corporate Ownership'; 'Dental Education Accrediting Authorities' and 'Radiation Safety'. • Reports were provided and adopted from the ADA's various Committees and Special Purpose Committees. • A Special General Meeting of the Association was then conducted on 15 April 2011, at which the matters raised in the Notice pertaining to that Special General Meeting were passed.
