News Bulletin : ADA News Bulletin May 2011
44 MAY 2011 Two members of the ADA Library staff attended the recent 34th Australian Dental Congress held in Brisbane where they demonstrated the new online library service to ADA members. Many delegates had not used the library before so it was a terrific opportunity to show them how information can be easily obtained from the library whether it be a physical item, such as a book or DVD, or one of the many electronic resources available. BORROWING IS FREE The ADA Library provides books and audiovisual items for members to borrow for a four week period. The contents of the ADA Library can be searched via the 'Search' button on the Library's home page. Once the items of interest have been retrieved simply tick the appropriate boxes and click on 'request' and an email will be sent to library staff. If the items are available they will be posted out immediately, if they are on loan they will be reserved for you and sent out as soon as they are available. The only cost to members is the postage back to the library at the end of the loan period. FULL TEXT ARTICLES FROM SOME JOURNALS CAN BE ACCESSED IMMEDIATELY The Library subscribes to the Ebsco Dental and Oral Sciences Database (DOSS) which indexes hundreds of dentistry journals of which 140 journals provide full text articles immediately at the click of a button. If the article is not available as a PDF file from the database just send a request to the library staff and a copy of the article will be found, scanned and emailed to you. SOME BOOKS ARE AVAILABLE ONLINE The Library also has access to some electronic books. They can be accessed via the catalogue and are identifiable by the globe icon: Or they can be accessed directly from the Stat!Ref database of Electronic books: Update on library service ADA online national library
