News Bulletin : ADA News Bulletin June 2011
Dear Member By now most people understand the need to get regular pap tests, breast exams and prostate tests. This heightened awareness has significantly increased the early detection and thus survival rate from those cancers. Oral cancer is one of the least understood conditions amongst the general public. While many patients could tell you that smoking is one of the main causes of oral cancer, most patients are unaware of the other causes (which represent about 25% of all cases) and certainly wouldn't know what are the early signs of the condition. How you can help The 2011 Dental Health Week campaign aims to put this right. Australian dentists are the one group that is best placed to make an impact and really start getting this message out into the community. What happens next Over the next couple of months, in the run up to Dental Health Week, we'll be emailing every member with information explaining how you can get involved. It won't take up too much time but the potential benefits to your patients, their families and their friends will be enormous. Please join us to help start a conversation and give oral cancer awareness a voice. Yours sincerely Dr F. Shane Fryer ADA Inc. President Together we can give oral cancer awareness a voice.
