News Bulletin : ADA News Bulletin July 2011
25 July 2011 committee report The programs were initially produced in-house by the ADAinteract Producer, Ms Carole Nestor, who plans and markets the program to members, using a list of lecturers and topics supplied by the CPD Committee. The CPD Committee organise the lecture series a year in advance and attempt to cover a broad range of clinical and other relevant subjects, guided by suggestions from participants. The initial bimonthly series of tutorials were so enthusiastically received by remote members, and received such positive feedback from presenters, that Federal Executive requested the Committee to investigate and make recommendations in regard to: • Possibly expanding the member service by increasing the number of participants; and • Improving the production quality. The production of ADAinteract, has now been outsourced to Redback Conferencing whose virtual audience presentation and interaction tools has increased the efficiency and effectiveness of the delivery of the programs. Ms Carole Nestor of ADA Inc. continues to manage the program in-house. The CPD Committee are currently working on further improving the quality of the productions and have expanded the program to monthly sessions and increased the number of participants from 25 to 60. fURTHER ObJECTIvES AddEd TO AGEndA In 2009, the Committee added further objectives to its agenda: • Continue to generate ideas for the CPD Dental Files; • Promote the Interstate Guest Lecturer scheme; • Present articles for the News Bulletin; • Monitor and promote the rural and remote webinar and teleconference program; and • Explore the possibility of a travelling CPD roadshow in non- Congress years. PROPOSEd ROAdSHOW COMMEnCInG In 2012 Recently, a proposal was put to the Federal Executive to consider setting up an ADA CPD roadshow to provide a source of CPD courses to members in alternate years to the ADA Inc. It was proposed that two or three authors, who might not usually be available to Branches, be subsidised by ADA Inc. to travel to each state to present the themed program. The ‘roadshow’ would be available to any Branch interested in participating. At its December 2010 meeting, Federal Executive considered the CPD Committee’s recommendations and approved in principle a CPD roadshow to take place in alternative years to Congress (commencing in 2012). At the April 2011 Federal Council meeting the proposal was approved and allocated a budget with which to implement the scheme. With compulsory CPD now a reality, the CPD Committee sees its ongoing role as developing and organising ideas with an overall responsibility in guiding members on how they can obtain CPD appropriate to their needs and assisting them in keeping a record of their CPD activities through the free facility on the ADA Inc. website.
