44 AUGUST 2011 FinDing ReSeARCH mAteRiAL for members is one of our most enjoyable jobs AdA national online library Many of the requests relate to study the member is doing. So, for example, if the member is studying the treatment planning component of the MRACDS course, we could be asked to find articles that relate to treatment planning in various aspects of dentistry. For those articles that prove to be of greatest use, we will add a record in the catalogue so that it can be found by anyone else wanting similar information. We do receive a number of requests that relate to a need to find specific information that will assist in treating a patient. In some cases, the patient may be suffering from a medical condition that affects their oral health, so library staff will search for information pertaining to that condition and its side effects. The reasons members need certain information are numerous and varied. We have been requested to find information as collaborating evidence for a member who was appearing in a court case and he wanted to be sure that he was up-to-date with the latest information on that subject. Some members ask us to find support material for a lecture they have been asked to give. For one member we provided material that would relate to a younger audience as he was talking to children about the necessity of looking after their teeth. On another occasion we were asked to find some historical information and humorous anecdotes for a more light-hearted lecture to an older audience. When researching that topic we discovered that dentistry was the favoured pastime of some past monarchs, including King James IV of Scotland and Peter the Great of Russia. The main subject area that the library concentrates on is dentistry but due to the fact that many dentists are involved in lectures and presentations we do purchase books that may be of assistance in this area as well. Some recent publications that may be of interest are: If you would like to borrow these, or any other books within the library collection contact the library staff: Email: email@example.com Website: www.ada.org.au Visit dentalbookings.com.au or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
