8 OCTOBER 2011 dEnTAL PRACTITIOnERS URGEd TO CHECK REGISTRATIOn ExPIRY And REnEW On TIME About 17,900 dental practitioners across Australia are due to renew their registration by 30 November 2011 – the new annual renewal date for the profession under the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme. Dental Board of Australia Chair Dr John Lockwood said dental practitioners based in the ACT, New South Wales and South Australia, who renewed their registration by 30 June 2011, were given valid registration for five months and must renew again. “The registration renewal cycle for all dental practitioners in Australia will then be aligned and annual registration renewal will be due by 30 November,” Dr Lockwood said. Dental practitioners can check the National Register of Dental Practitioners published online at www.dentalboard.gov.au to confirm their registration expiry date. The best way to search the register is by name and profession. While online, dental practitioners should also make sure their contact details supplied to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), including email and telephone, are correct and current. This will allow AHPRA to send renewal reminders. Dental practitioners should watch for these reminders as confirmation that they can renew online. Setting email accounts to receive communications from AHPRA and the Dental Board of Australia would avoid misdirection to an account junk box, Dr Lockwood said. To update your contact details held by AHPRA, go online at www.ahpra.gov.au, click online services, use your unique contact number (User ID) and follow the prompts. Your User ID is not your registration number. If you do not have your User ID, complete an online enquiry form, selecting ‘User ID’ as the category of enquiry or by calling 1300 419 495. Under the National Law, all registered dental practitioners are responsible for renewing their registration on time each year and there is no option for AHPRA or the National Board to renew your registration after it has lapsed without a new application. The quickest and easiest way to renew your registration is online at www.dentalboard.gov.au. For more information: • Visit www.dentalboard.gov.au; • Visit www.ahpra.gov.au under ‘Contact us’ to lodge an online enquiry form; • For registration enquiries: 1300 419 495 (within Australia) +61 3 8708 9001 (overseas callers). latest news nEW dvA fEE SCHEdULES As ADA members would be aware every October the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Medical and Allied Health Fee Schedules are reviewed and updated in line with the Department of Health and Ageing Fee Schedules.
